Culturas Hidalgo & Oaxaca Restaurant: Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Salinas

Happened upon this gem while passing through Salinas. The best Oaxacan spot we’ve been to yet. We ordered half dark/green mole, quesabirrias, and pozole which were all packed with flavor. Agua frescas were also refreshing. Our server was so helpful in giving recommendations as it was our first time. Parking can be a bit difficult to find when busy so you might have to circle around.

It was the first time I had been to Culturas Hidalgo & Oxaca Restaurant in Salinas California. I was first greeted by the beautiful blue building that made the place feel festive from the get go. The ladies at the counter who spoke perfect English and Spanish, were very friendly and helpful!  They suggested menu items that I could try. I ended up ordering the Tlayudo It was an extra large charred crispy earthy corn tortilla, black beans paste, lots of Oxaca cheese, shredded cabbage, and tomato. I had mines with just beef on top. However, they have a variety or combinations of meats to choose from. The Tlayudo was finished off with slices of avocado and a delicious - not really spicy, salsa. I would so go there again when I'm back in Salinas, California

Colorful hole in the wall, conveniently located close to 101. Large parking lot with handicap parking in front of the entrance or street parking. Very friendly and helpful staff, warmly greeted. Delicious, authentic food dishes from Hidalgo and Oaxaca. Extensive menu with vegetarian section. Very tasty, big portions, reasonably priced. We got take out (due to late arrival) and returned two days later for dinner. Yummy, highly recommended. Best Mexican food I recall. Apparently a family run business, lots of local patrons. Very busy in the evening, but order was served quickly. Must have restaurant stop when transiting or coming to Salinas!

Fantastic hole in the wall place! The staff was all very friendly and very helpful in making recommendations on what to order and how much would be enough for our group. The food was all delicious too, and if you get a chance to get the Mango agua fresca (made in-house), then definitely grab it - it's not too sweet and just perfect!

Amazing freshly made vegi Tacos. We enjoyed nopal and mushroom. End up ordering twice.. so yummy

First time here. Was greeted very warmly by the staff. Ordered an enchilada plate, three tacos, and a side of rice for my kid. Total came to $32. Food was solid.

We had our dog with us so we sat in the outside dining area. Ordered chips and salsa, shrimp tacos for my husband, and asada tacos for myself. Menu has English translations for those that need it. Most authentic food I’ve had in a long time.

Yummy! What a great treat after a long day of hiking! Horchata was delicious and they have a vegan menu! Thank you so much for the great food and the exceptional service. Will definitely be coming back when I’m in the area :)
